Iran ‘Appendix’ to vie in Bangladesh

Iranian feature ‘Appendix’ has been selected to compete at the 17th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

Directed by Hossein Namazi, 'Appendix’ depicts a social theme which narrates daily social events. The story occurs in a hospital; the particular location reminiscent of anxiety and stress, narrating problems in the society.

Due to severe abdominal pain, Zari and her husband, Reza, go to a hospital. However, Zari’s insurance ID has expired and they are forced to borrow her friend Leila’s ID.

Eventually, she undergoes appendectomy using Leila’s ID and the staff at the hospital suspect about this matter.

Due to this, they are forced to switch roles to convince hospital staff that the ID belongs to Zari. However, many unfortunate events take place in the process.

The film has so far attended a number of global events, including the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival in China, the 2018 International Film Festival Love Is Folly in Bulgaria, the 2018 Guwahati International Film Festival in India, and the 2018 Asian Film Festival in Spain.

In its first international appearance, ‘Appendix’ succeeded to receive Best Screenplay Award from the main competition section of the 41st Montreal World Film Festival in Canada.

Its star Amir-Ali Danaei has also received best male actor in a leading role award at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Taiwan.

In addition to Danaei, the movie’s cast includes Anahita Nemati, Reza Akbarpour, Pardis Manouchehri and Marjan Momeni.
